Making Money Online With A Blog

What Is It?

Turn your passion for writing into a way for you to be making money online with a blog. Through a blog you can make money by selling advertisement space, leveraging affiliate links, selling products or even having a paid subscription area.

How Does It Work?

First you will need to establish what your niche is. What will you be targeting and writing about. It doesn’t have to be something you are an expert at (right now) but it should be something you are passionate about.

Then you will need a system to build your blog. WordPress is the largest content management system (CMS) out there, with 30% of the internet built on WordPress. Gone are the days of needing to pay a web developer a truck load of money to build and maintain a nice looking website. With WordPress a non-technical person can put together their own website, using free professional looking themes, within only a couple hours.

Before you start building it you would need to choose how to setup WordPress. You can either have hosted with WordPress system itself or have it hosted through BlueHost. Hosting with WordPress is easier and better for non-technical people while hosting with BlueHost will save you some extra money and allows technical people to do a whole lot more tweaking to it.

Then it is a simple matter of choosing a theme and layout for your site. Browse and play around with it. Don’t be afraid to make a wrong decision, as you can easily make changes at any time.

After that you start writing, regular articles and building up a large number of viewers. You improve your viewers through posting on social media (also very easy with WordPress), sharing with friends and family and optimizing your site for search engines.

It will take weeks/months for traffic to build up to levels that you need to make money. While that is occurring you can start adding ways to monetize your blog.

Putting in ads to your site is very easy to do. Even a couple hundred views per day could pay off your website costs each month.

Affiliate Links

The true money maker on websites, affiliate links are where you promote a product and provide a special link to the product. If someone buys the product then you get a commission. Plus it doesn’t cost your viewers anything.

Donations

Often with more creative sites they will include a donations button where people can send them money through PayPal. This is easy to setup with a WordPress plugin such as Give.

Selling Products Through A Store

In some cases you might have related products for your blog that you want to sell. You can create your own online store, using something like WooCommerce, that is integrated into your blog. Another option is you can sell them on other marketplaces like Amazon or EBay and simply use your site to drive views and traffic to your products.

Subscriptions

Also through a system like WooCommerce, you can add a paid subscription service. This can be used when you have great information on your site but if people want to see more premium articles they pay a monthly fee.

How Much Money Can You Make?

The amount you make depends on the number of regular views you have and how engaged your viewers are. With 100 daily views, you would make under $10/month. 85% blogs don’t get 10,000+ daily views, however if you do then you will likely see a lot more money come in through affiliations or subscribers, for roughly $1,000+/month. The top 4% of bloggers make $10,000+/month.
